Well i never been fan of those kinds of things. I remember when around 97 when irc was main place to talk with people Microsoft tried to make ‘Live’ version of it with WinChat. You could make Your own comic there, and all people speaking were characters You choosen. Anyways, time passed and now we are back. I hear more and more about ideas of customizing and making internet a 3d world that u can walk on and penetrate.
Second Life is a big hit in the world. People from various countries use the service every day and it gains more and more popularity. Our favoorite Google cant be worse, so also decided to make their own customize live thinge. The thing is called “Lively“.
SO how does Google Lively work? You make ur own rooms, add avatars and go through them to meet people. The option is we can make our own world and insert it to our website so everybody who views it can enter the world we made. At the moment this works under new IE and Firefox other web browsers are not supportign the plugin yet.
“It’s integrated with the Internet. It’s not an alternate destination,” said Niniane Wang, Google’s engineering manager for the project. “Our intention is to add to your existing life.”
Integration with the ordinary Internet takes several forms. For one thing, you can pipe in content hosted elsewhere on the Internet, including photos or videos. For another, you can embed your Lively area into your blog or, using widgets Google has written, on Facebook Web pages now and MySpace pages later. And you can e-mail your friends a normal Web address to get them to join.
With Lively, you can set up you own online spaces–rooms, grassy meadows, desert islands, or, in the demo version I tried, simulated Silicon Valley office parks. You can change the clothing or form of your avatar (that’s your online incarnation, for those of you who missed the Second Life hype). And of course you can chat, do backflips, shake hands, and give high-fives.
The idea is to bring a better social dimension to online interaction, Wang said–something more sophisticated for expressing oneself than an emoticon on an instant-messenger status line.
As usual with Google the technology is free and concurent for others. We will see if Second Life survives
And for the end, something about Google. What do u think? Of Google Master Plan of taking over the world?
Ah and what is a blogging tip here? Not only u make your blog more 2.0, u can also chat to your viewers and it is possible to put links to websites on things inside rooms. Maybe thats new way of SEO?
